Boys Soccer
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY: Any Boy in 3rd-8th grade is eligible to play CYO soccer for a school or Parish sports program which participates in CYO Athletics. The criteria for eligibility is based on a childs residence or where they attend school. The child must either attend school or live within the geographic boundaries of the Catholic parish or program. Interested players should contact the Athletic Director for the specific school/program they wish to join. HOW DO I JOIN A TEAM?: Any child who resides or attends school in San Francisco and San Mateo can participate in CYO Athletics. To find out where a child is eligible please contact cyoathletics@catholiccharitiessf.org
GAME TIMES: Games are primarily played on Saturday 8am-5pm; Sunday 1pm-5pm;.
POST-SEASON: The top four teams in each division advance to post season play. The format for the single elimination playoff round is 1st place vs. 4th place; 2nd place vs. 3rd place; with the winners advancing to a single elimination championship round. If two teams finish with the same record, head-to-head results determine playoff eligibility and seeding. Trophies are awarded to the 1st place and 2nd place teams immediately following the championship game.
8TH GRADE ACHIEVEMENT GAME: Each 8th grade team may send two players to participate in an exhibition game at the conclusion of the season. All players receive a commemorative t-shirt and will be listed in the game program.
GAME/BALL/COURT/PLAYERS:
3rd, 4th, 5th & *6th Grade - Players: 9 v 9 (7 minimum); Ball size: Junior #4 (*6th Grade = Ball size #5); Field size: Small (37.5' x 60'); Goal size: 12' wide 4' high; Game time: 4 ten minute quarters with 5 minute half time (*6th Grade = 4 twelve minute quarters with 5 minute half time).
7th & 8th Grade - Players: 11 v. 11 (9 minimum); Ball size: Junior #5; Field size: Big (75' x 120'); Goal size: 24' wide 8' high; Game time: 4 twelve minute quarters with 5 minute half time.
PARTICIPATION RULE: All players must play a minimum of one full quarter per half.
GAME LOCATIONS: Various fields in San Francisco.
COACHES: All CYO coaches are required to be fingerprinted, take the online VIRTUS course; "Protecting God's Children", and attend a mandatory coaching clinic every school year.
