FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I register my child for a program?

Registration is completed online through our website. Simply select the desired program, complete the required information, and submit payment to secure your spot.

  • Does my child need experience?

No, we welcome players of all levels of experience and they will learn the game from experienced coaches and staff.

  • How often do you practice?

This varies and depends on the school/program your athlete plays for and what sport. Please reach out to your school/program's Athletic Director for information.

  • How do I pay for sports?

All fees to play are paid DIRECTLY to the school/program your student athlete is playing for. Please contact the Athletic Director for finacial details.

  • What is the Gold League?

Only in-diocese programs are eligible to participate in this league. Student-athletes must either attend the school or be current CCD/Faith Formation members who have been continuously enrolled in the program for a minimum of eighteen (18) consecutive months, a requirement that must be certified by both the program director and the Pastor.

  • What is the Open Lague?

A minimum of 40% of each team’s roster must be made up of current school or program members.  Additionally, at least 40% of the participants on the court or field at all times must be current school or program members. If this percentage cannot be maintained during a game, the team will play with fewer players until it is met; it is the responsibility of each program to ensure enough current school members are rostered to account for absences, disqualifications, injuries, and other unforeseen circumstances. No more than two players may reside outside the counties of San Francisco and San Mateo, with one additional out-of-county player allowed for each enrolled student who lives outside these two counties. For programs not affiliated with a school (i.e., Girls and Boys Clubs) this number is capped at two. This rule ensures the league remains focused on local student athletes.

  • Is CYO still at St. Emydius?

Effective on Monday, June 1, 2026, CCCYO Athletics is no longer located at or affiliated with the St. Emydius.  As a result, CCCYO doesn’t have any affiliations with gymnasiums in San Francisco for the upcoming school year.  It is encouraged for all programs who rented St. Emydius for practices and games to research for new options.  All programs who have gym availability and would be willing to offer assistance to those programs in need, CYO would be happy to share any information you would like us to communicate.

  • Can I enter team?

W are not accepting any new teams at this time. Teams may only be entered into the league by an already participating program and Athletic Director. If you are a coach already associated with a current participating program, please reach out to your Athletic Director to inform them about your team.

  • How do I sign up my child for a team?

To inquire about joining a team, please go to the website below and look under the list of participating programs.

From there, you can find the contact information for the Athletic Director (AD) of the program you are interested in. Please email that AD directly to ask whether the program offers a team for the specific sport and grade level, and whether there is space available on the team.

  • What are the criteria for both leagues?

No athlete may play in another program if s/he attends a school SF CYO serves, unless that program isn’t offering a particular sport.

No athlete may play for two separate schools/programs, in the SF CYO, in the same scholastic year unless the first program s/he played with isn’t offering that particular sport.

No athlete may play in a CYO league if s/he attends a school the PPSL serves.

Any team with an illegal player participating in it will have all their games forfeited, in which the athlete participated, and be ineligible for postseason participation.

Any contest where three separate participants (player, coach, and/or score keeper) receive a technical foul/yellow card, will result in that team forfeiting the contest.

  • Are volunteers or coaches needed?

All sports programs rely on volunteer coaches and helpers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact a school/program's Athletic Director to see what their program may need.

  • How will I receive updates and announcements?

All updates will come to you from your school/program's Athletic Director. No updates will come directly from the league.
